Surfing the Internet in cable-free environments like your armchair or a sunny spot in the garden - theoretically an easy proposition. Unfortunately furniture, walls and other obstacles can team up to reduce wireless freedom significantly. Dr. Bott, the only supplier of Apple-certified WLAN-antenna, is now offering a significant step towards extending the range of Apple AirPort Extreme Base Stations. With the certification of the Dr. Bott ExtendAir Direct Antenna for the European Union the range of AirPort Extreme has jumped to 150 m, and above under ideal conditions. ExtendAir Direct areas can be pointed directly at areas with poor coverage and can also be used to connect seperate network segments across obstacles. The new Power Mac G5 benefits, too - the ExtendAir antennae plug directly into the antenna port on Apple's new flagship model.
ExtendAir Direct is available in North America for several months. Now a European version has completed certification for the European Union so that users across Europe can take advantage of the fantastic new possibilities opened by ExtendAir Direct.
ExtendAir Direct is an Apple-certified dual-diversity antenna (+ 6.5 dBi) that increases the range of AirPort Extreme Basestations (model with antenna port required) very significantly.
ExtendAir Direct offers connectivity at ranges up to 150 m, and more under ideal conditions. By using two base stations with an ExtendAir Direct each the range can be increased even further.
ExtendAir Direct can be pointed at "dark" spots in offices, on campus and in hot spots to improve network coverage in critical areas.
Seperate networks can be joined, too. ExtendAir Direct and the bridge mode in AirPort Extreme Base Stations provide an ideal solution for transparently connecting buildings on opposite sides of a busy road.
The new Power Mac G5 has a built-in antenna port that is perfectly compatible with ExtendAir antenna, too. Exchanging the standard T-antenna for an ExtendAir Direct (or its omnidirectional cousin ExtendAir Omni) allows the G5 to access base stations at a greater distance or notebooks can reach a Software Basestation on the G5 from further away.
ExtendAir Direct amplifies both the new, fast standard 802.11g and the older, widespread 802.11b, both at their respective optimal speeds.
Compatibility: Dr. Bott ExtendAir Direct is connected to the antenna port of the AirPort Extreme Base Station or of a Power Macintosh G5.
No configuration is needed. The base station requires a reset to recognize and fully utilize the antenna. The presence of the antenna is indicated in base station software.
The Power Macintosh G5 requires no restart - the antenna is used immediately.
Windows and Linux computers use ExtendAir antenna transparently through the AirPort Extreme base station - the base station behaves like an access point with built-in router. When used in Bridge Mode the AirPort Extreme Base Station behaves like a point-to-point Ethernet-WLAN adapter.
